Create a Lord’s Prayer Labyrinth

A labyrinth is not a maze. There are no tricks or dead ends. A labyrinth is a pathway, with a destination. It creates a sense of journey, and it encourages reflection along the way.

This activity invites students to ‘journey’ through the Lord’s Prayer. As students walk around the labyrinth pathways they encounter sentences from the Lord’s Prayer, and they are encouraged to reflect on the words, and perhaps pray them for themselves.

You’ll find more information and a download on the Prayer Spaces in Schools website.  You’ll have to register to access their resources, but registration is quick and easy and the resources are free of charge.

Open the Book training in Basingstoke

Open the Book

Children love stories – especially Bible stories when they’re interactive, engaging and fun.

Open the Book began in 1999 and since then thousands of school children have discovered Bible stories, during assembly and collective worship.

Today, so many children could miss out on the great classic stories from the Bible – Noah, Daniel and the life of Jesus could be closed chapters if youngsters don’t get an opportunity to engage with the Bible.

That’s why Open the Book is so important. It’s a three-year rolling programme of themed and dramatised storytelling at no charge to primary schools. Teams of volunteers throughout the country use drama, mime, props, costume – and even the children and staff themselves – to present the Bible stories in lively and informative ways.

You can read more about the project on the Bible Society’s Open the Book website.

You don’t need any special skills to be an Open the Book volunteer, just attendance at a training session which lasts just a day.

There Is a training session organised in Basingstoke on Saturday 19th September!

Scripture Union – It’s Your Church

its your churchIt’s Your Church is a 16 page A4 booklet aimed at 8 – 11 year olds who are visiting a church as part of their RE syllabus. It offers an opportunity for churches to connect with their local schools as they invite children to visit their building and community. The booklet contains generic information about churches that can easily be applied in many different denominational settings. Children are invited to become TV presenters, finding out information that they can present back at school.
