We are really looking forward to all that God has for us as Winchester Diocese in 2018, and a big part of that is our commitment to pray and be expectant over Pentecost. We have had a great time over the past couple of years engaging with Novena (nine days of prayer leading up to Pentecost) and the service at Winchester Cathedral. We have had hundreds of prayer sessions happening across the diocese and have been amazed and encouraged by our collective call and engagement in prayer.
In 2018 we want to step it up a gear in terms of prayer and mission, and have several ways for you to get involved.
Novena – We want to pray!! We want every parish praying, and we want to engage teenagers and children in prayer too. For ideas on how to engage your churches and young people in this you can visit this website – Prayer Resources
Saturday 19th May

This year we are excited to announce new Lent Resources for both Adults, Inter-Generational Church and Young People. These resources are available free from:
We are looking forward to running a number of Prayer Spaces training events over the coming months.
These are aimed at those looking to start a Prayer Space for the first time in their local school, or have new team member(s) who would value hearing more about the ministry of Prayer Spaces. We are pleased to have Ian Hayes-Anderson joining us at these event, and his knowledge as a trainer and practioner in this area will be great to be part of whatever event you come to.
So whatever event you come to you will find resources, and an opportunity to get involved and be inspired to offer this to your local school, or church group.

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have invited Christians across the country to pray for mission and evangelism in the nine days leading up to Pentecost Sunday (15th May).
This time of prayer will culminate in six ‘Beacon Events’ around the country over Pentecost weekend, where people will pray for the renewal of the Church by the Holy Spirit and greater confidence to share the Gospel.
One of the national Beacon Events will take place at Winchester Cathedral.
There is an unashamed focus amongst this on ‘younger people’. So Youth and Children’s Leaders, you are key!
We’d love to see all the youth leaders, young people, children’s leaders and children across the diocese linked into this event and the prayer around it. And here are two ways you can do just that:
Gather – Pentecost Beacon Event, 15th May, 7-9pm
On 15th May, 7-9pm, we will be gathering from across the diocese for a prayer concert in Winchester Cathedral. It will be led by Bishop David, and will feature sung worship with Matt Redman and prayer led by Carla Harding from 24-7 Prayer.
Why not bring a group of young people from your parish or Deanery?
To register for free tickets please click here. (Tickets are going fast – so book quickly with your group!)
Prayer – Deanery Prayer Initiatives
24/7 prayer events will be taking place in every deanery in the nine days leading up to Pentecost. The Curates across the Diocese will be taking the lead on these events, along with the Area Deans.
Hopefully they will be getting in touch to let you know how you and the young people and children you work with can link in. If not – why not get in contact with your Area Dean and see what’s going on and how you can get involved!
