The Winchester Diocese School of Mission (WSM) supports the discipleship, discernment, calling, training and equipping and ongoing development of all the people of God in the diocese, so that together we live the mission of Jesus.

Cracking IT Ministry Training Day

Plans are underway for a one-day conference in February, hosted by Moorlands College, and run in partnership with us to get lay and salaried workers together for a day of resourcing and encouragement! We are hoping for a good selection of external agencies involved in children and family ministry to join us to share the resources they offer.

The day will be crammed with guest speakers, topical seminars and practical resources to help anyone working with families and children in the local church.  Save the date for you and your team.

SATURDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2018

Moorlands College, Sopley, BH23 7AT

More details to follow soon

Pentecost 2018

We are really looking forward to all that God has for us as Winchester Diocese in 2018, and a big part of that is our commitment to pray and be expectant over Pentecost. We have had a great time over the past couple of years engaging with Novena (nine days of prayer leading up to Pentecost) and the service at Winchester Cathedral. We have had hundreds of prayer sessions happening across the diocese and have been amazed and encouraged by our collective call and engagement in prayer.

In 2018 we want to step it up a gear in terms of prayer and mission, and have several ways for you to get involved.

Novena – We want to pray!! We want every parish praying, and we want to engage teenagers and children in prayer too. For ideas on how to engage your churches and young people in this you can visit this website – Prayer Resources

Saturday 19th May

There is a royal wedding, FA cup final and our event on the green. More information on this day will be out soon.

Big Changes in how we connect with you!

We want to be better at communicating with the whole diocese through every platform you engage with. We want to be better at supporting you and your ministry and let you all know about the great things going on across the diocese.

So from January 2018 we will be active and available through the following:

School of Mission (SOM) Newsletters which will come out every month (on the 3rd Friday of the month) and have loads of information about what we are up to and how we can support you and what you’re doing. We would also love to share testimonies of what is going on around the diocese, so if you have any stories you want to share then please let us know by sending them to schoolofmission@winchester.anglican.org.

Because we are trendy we will also be active daily over the following social media platforms:

School of Mission Facebook | SOM Twitter | SOM Instagram | SOM Vimeo | SOM Blog

The current YCF brand will be disappearing after Christmas but all relevant news on Children, Families and Young people’s ministry will still be sent via our SOM platforms.

Lent 2018

This year we are excited to announce new Lent Resources for both Adults, Inter-Generational Church and Young People. These resources are available free from:

sally.dakin@winchester.anglican.org (Adults)

Paul.smith@winchester.anglican.org  (Youth)

Andy.saunders@winchester.anglican.org  (Inter-Generational)

Prayer Spaces Events

We are looking forward to running a number of Prayer Spaces training events over the coming months.

These are aimed at those looking to start a Prayer Space for the first time in their local school, or have new team member(s) who would value hearing more about the ministry of Prayer Spaces. We are pleased to have Ian Hayes-Anderson joining us at these event, and his knowledge as a trainer and practioner in this area will be great to be part of whatever event you come to.

So whatever event you come to you will find resources, and an opportunity to get involved and be inspired to offer this to your  local school, or church group.

Changes for the New Year!

Since I have been in post in the diocese I have realised there is a whole world of amazing people, projects and initiatives going on that as a Parish youth minister I had no idea about. So we want to change the way we communicate with you, in order to let you know who are are, what we do, how we can help you, and just to create greater links of support between the School of Mission and the parishes. So from January 2018 we will no longer have a YCF communications stream, but we will be communicating out as School of Mission (SOM). School of Mission is made up of a team of amazing administrators, several advisers and our fearless leader Rev Canon Mark Collinson. We are here to support and help mission take place across the diocese. Myself and Andy Saunders, whom you know, work as youth and children advisers, but we have others who do great work in every other area of the church. So through our communications as SOM we will be introducing you to everyone in the department, what we do, and how we can help. And also sharing amazing testimonies of what God is doing across the diocese to inspire and encourage you where you are. We will be doing this through out SOM Facebook, SOM Twitter, SOM Instagram, SOM Newsletter and SOM Blog. So please subscribe to these when they come out. We will do out best to share links over all our current platforms and we look forward to working with you all over 2018.
